Chief Warrant Officer Barker Kwame Ramous was born in Accra on 8th February 1969. He had his Basic Elementary Education at Wajir “B” Barracks Primary and Middle Schools at Teshie Camp and obtained Middle School Level Certificate (MSLC) in 1986. He then proceeded to Kpando Technical Institute in the Volta Region and obtained City and Guilds Intermediate Certificate in 1989.
He was recruited into the Ghana Army on 10th May 1990. After six months of Basic Infantry Training in Kumasi, he was posted to 49 Engineers Regiment and employed as a carpenter. He has completed his Military career courses including Field Engineers Course at Engineer Training School, Teshie, Advance Drill and Duties Course at Army Combat Training School (ADDS), Teshie, Advance NCO’s Tactical Course at Army Combat Training School Teshie, Sergeant Major Course at Army Combat Training School, Teshie and OTEMAN Leadership Course at Army Combat Training School, Teshie. He is also a product of School of Education (Advance Education) at MATS, Teshie where he obtained Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE).
He has also obtained internationally recognized certificates in Security Intelligence and Forensic Studies, Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) and Drone Technology from KNUTSFORD UNIVERSITY COLLEGE, at Legon respectively. As a seasoned Peacekeeper, he has participated in a number of United Nations Peacekeeping Missions around the world. He has served with UNIFIL GHANBATT 38, 43, 55, 69, UNMIL GHANBATT 2, 6, ECOMOC 15 UNOCI GHANBATT 16. He has also served at UNIFIL HQ as the Forces Sergeant Major from 2013 - 2014.
In addition, he has been honoured and decorated with Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in the Ghana Armed Forces, and Ghana @ 50 Independence Anniversary Medal on 6 March 2007 respectively.
He was appointed Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) 49 Engineers Regiment on 2 April 2010, Acting Brigade Sergeant Major, SP Svc Bde, from 2012 – 2013, Command Sergeant Major, Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College from Aug 2014 – May 2015, Brigade Sergeant Major, SP Svc Bde from May - Sep 2015. He was also the Acting Sergeant Major of the Army from Sep - Dec 2015.
Furthermore, he has held several appointments both at home and abroad whiles on United Nations Peacekeeping Missions. He was a carpenter in charge of a project at Achiase and Sekondi-Takoradi in 1997 and 2000 respectively. He was a Squad Drill Instructor at Army Drill and Duties School (ACTS), from 2000 – 2010, a Platoon Sergeant in UNMIL GHANBATT 6, a Company Sergeant Major, UNIFIL GHANBATT 69, RSM UNOCI GHANBATT 16, UNIFIL HQ Force Sergeant Major from 2013 – 2014.
Before his appointment as the Forces Sergeant Major of the Ghana Armed Forces on June 2016, he was the Sergeant Major of the Army from Dec 15 – May 16. Upon his assumption of office as the Forces Sergeant Major, Chief Warrant Officer Barker Kwame Ramous has attended several seminars and programs outside the country among which are; the African Land Forces Summit held in Lilongwe, Malawi from 8 - 12 May 2017. The Senior Enlisted Training and Leadership Development Conference in El Paso, Texas in the USA. The Senior Enlisted Training and Leadership Development Conference in Germany from 06 – 11 November 2017. Africa Senior Enlisted Leaders Conference in Garmisch, Germany from 15 – 19 Oct 2018. The US Ministry of Defence Non-Commissioned Officer Academics in USA from 8 – 26 Mar 2019. He also he attended the Country Coordination Meeting, Stuttgart – Germany, from 23 – 26 Oct 2019 and FY20 Defence Senior Enlisted Leaders Council in Washington, USA from 9 – 13 Dec 2019.
He was a member of Medals Day Delegation to United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) GHANBATT 5, led by the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Lt Gen OB Akwa from 21 – 27 January 2018.
Some key appointments held are as follows: A Member of the Armed Forces Council, a Member of Board of Trustees to the Armed Forces Provident Fund, and Non-Executive Member of the Board of Directors (Services Integrity Savings and Loads Ltd).
The Forces Sergeant Major (FSM) of the Ghana Armed Forces, Chief Warrant Officer Barker Kwame Ramous is married with 3 children, (two sons and a daughter).
He enjoys listening to gospel music, reading military books and farming.
